Thanks to is favorable geografhycal characteristics, Brindisi port is an historical and natural reference gate for relationships with Greece, Balkan area, Turkey and Eastern Mediterranean basin.
Nowadays, it occupies a strategic position in the network of transnational routes as it is a crossing point between the Adriatic route and the Southern European route No. 8; thus, it is the pivot for exchanges in relationships from north to south, east to west.
Railway connections develop through the junction of Brindisi station:
- to north, along the line Bari-Bologna-Milan;
- to Campania and Calabria throug Taranto;
- to Lecce and Salento.
Roads coincide with the same itineraries:
- to north, along the motorway to Bari, then A 14;
- to Ionic and Tyrrhenian regions, along SS 7 to Taranto, then SS 106 (ionic) to Calabria and highway to Potenza, through Salerno and Naples.
